The Society operates the Canberra Miniature Railway as a service to the community.
The Canberra Miniature Railway is situated at the end of Jerrabomberra Avenue, Symonston and is open to the public regularly throughout the year according to our calendar. Trains operate at:
- 10:30am to 2:30pm on running days, and
- 5:00pm to 9:00pm on running nights.
Passengers are taken on an almost 1 kilometre journey from the station on the larger 7¼” gauge line, through the junction, out to the Causeway bridge and on up the hill where the passengers get a birds-eye view over the site before returning to the station, usually taking about six minutes. A second track, the 5″ gauge line, is also available which accommodates smaller trains and has a tunnel. A third “raised track” is used as often as possible, often by small steam-powered locomotives.
A mixture of steam, electric and petrol powered model locomotives are used. Not every type of locomotive may be available on every running day.
Regular running day pricing
Rides on regular day runs cost $18 per person for unlimited rides when pre-purchased via TryBooking (plus their 95c per ticket booking fee) or $20 when purchased at the gate (unless sold out beforehand). Single ride tickets can be purchased at the gate for $5 per person per ride. Children under 3 ride free when accompanied by a paying adult. You may enter for free if you are not riding on the trains.
Special Event Pricing
Entry and unlimited rides cost $18 per person for special events, including twilight/night runs, when pre-purchased via TryBooking (plus their 95c per ticket booking fee) or $20 if purchased at the gate (unless sold out beforehand). No single ride tickets are available for special events. Children under 3 enter and ride free when accompanied by a paying adult. Entry to the site is included with each ticket. All persons entering the site must have a valid ticket.
Small children
For safety reasons, children below a certain height cannot ride alone and must be accompanied by a responsible person.
Children under three years old are unable to ride the small 5″ gauge trains, even with an adult, but are welcome on the larger 7¼” gauge trains.
Cashless entry and canteen
Going cashless ensures our volunteers a safer environment. EFTPOS is available for ticket sales and food and drinks from the canteen. Please bring your card/device.
